North Dakota, October 9, 2020—Decoding Dyslexia North Dakota, a grassroots advocacy group based in North Dakota that raises awareness of Dyslexia (learning disorder), has announced its T-Shirt Design Contest Winner. The winner is Aubrey Kleser, a wise 12-year-old girl. According to the organization president, Justine Gibbon, Aubrey wrote in her design, “If people become more aware of dyslexia, they would know that we are inspiring, unique, courageous, smart, brave, creative, & determined.” Justine added, It was a deep message from a kid with Dyslexia. We hope people are aware of and support children with Dyslexia. This is the right time to spread the message because it coincides with Dyslexia Awareness Month.” The Decoding Dyslexia North Dakota T-shirt design contest was held this September, and the winning design will be featured on Decoding Dyslexia North Dakota’s new T-shirts for sale during dyslexia awareness month. Aubrey Kleser received a free T-shirt featuring her design and a $50 Amazon gift card.

Dyslexia is a learning disorder characterized by difficulty reading, poor spelling and writing, and late speech development. According to the Dyslexia Center of Utah, one in five, or 15-20% of the population, has a language-based learning disability, and 70-80% of people with poor reading skills are likely dyslexic. Dyslexia can occur in children with normal intelligence and vision, and most children with Dyslexia can succeed in school with tutoring as well as specialized education programs.
