What are some of the best memories you have from your childhood? Do you
remember all the personal relationships that you had? How many of those
relationships were important to you throughout your life? How many of
those relationships do you still cherish today? Now take a look at your
children. Do they have those same personal relationships? Do they spend
time with their friends like you did? Or are they spending their time
trapped behind a screen? Technology has advanced society in many ways,
however, as we have become more "connected" we haven't been "connecting"
with one another enough.
This has lead to the fundamental problem we are starting to see emerge in our society today. In the United States, we have the highest diagnoses of depression in teens and young adults than ever before in history. We have the highest suicide rate among teens and young adults and the leading cause of death for those under 50 is no longer heart disease. It is drug overdose! A completely preventable cause of death.
What has caused this? I believe that our
society has lost touch with what truly makes us fulfilled. We are all
connected but we are not connecting with one another enough. It may seem
like we are because we all have 2,000 friends on Facebook. However, how
many of those “friends” do we actually consider friends? How many can
we can call in times of need and truly rely on and connect with?
This has biochemical effects on all of us. Check out www.AreWeThriving.com for more information on this.
Children today are too reliant upon social media, television, and video games. We are missing those personal interactions that we all thrive on. Help your kids get back to a childhood that you remember. Help them develop the skills to build those lasting relationships and make a difference in the world around them. The Are We Thriving 30 day Challenge Journal does just that. Check out how this journal that is being used in schools throughout the country can help your child be the best they can be!
