1. Boxers
Boxer dogs are full of energy and they need a lot of exercise and playtime, but they are extremely loyal companions. Kids love boxers because of how active they are. Not only that, but boxers are highly intelligent and can easily be trained and they tend to act like puppies for many years before they finally mature and start to slow down. This is another reason why kids love this breed.
Here's a tip: get a boxer if you want a dog around you and your family at all times. This is because they are known for being clingy and needing their family. They love being around their owners and other members of their family.
2. Boston Terriers
Boston Terriers are tiny and they were originally bred as fighting dogs. However, that was a long time ago and now this breed is known for being more of a lover than a fighter. They have an abundance of energy and they have a stocky build. They have unique personalities and they are known for being a handful. Nonetheless, they are ideal for families with kids, mainly due to their energy, sturdy build and their size.
Just bear in mind their energy levels can be overwhelming for many people. Don't be fooled by their size, they are extremely hyper dogs that need just as much exercise as a lot of larger breeds.
3. Golden Retrievers
The golden retriever has a reputation as being the most child-friendly dog breed of all. Golden retrievers are extremely popular throughout the world, and one of the reasons why is because they have an extremely tolerant attitude. They are intelligent and they are a great working dog. If you're the type of family that enjoys outings or taking part in sports that require agility, then you'll love a golden retriever. They will be right there with you running around, which isn't surprising because they are natural athletes.
If you have young kids or kids that have never been exposed to a dog before, then consider getting a golden retriever.
4. Irish Wolfhound
For those that are looking for child-friendly dog breeds, but large ones should take a look at the Irish wolfhound. They can weigh up to 110 pounds or more, but 100 pounds is usually the most they will weigh. Irish wolfhounds don't do well in small apartments because they like to stretch and they are not fans of going up and down stairs. Be prepared to exercise them for about 40-60 minutes per day, but if you have kids, then they will love running around with one of these dogs.
5. Bernese Mountain Dogs
One of the largest dog breeds on this list is the Bernese Mountain dog, but don't let their size intimidate you. They are very gentle and they have a goofy personality, which is why kids love them. Not only that, but they are known for being calm dogs, but you shouldn't get one if you have limited space in your home. As previously mentioned, they are large and they enjoy having plenty of spaces to roam in. If you have a medium to large backyard, then that is fine, but if you don't have much space, then don't get one of these dogs.
If you want a happy-go-lucky dog that will brighten up your and your family's day, then get a Bernese mountain dog.
