Living in a cramped
apartment can seem really claustrophobic; especially if you do not make best
use of the space that you do have. The good news is that there are ways you can
make your apartment seem more spacious. You just have to put a little thought
into planning and design.
In this article, we
are going to give you some tips about how to create much wanted space, even if
your apartment is tiny. Hopefully, we can make you feel a bit better about living
in a less than spacious environment.
Make use of storage crates
Storage crates are
popular when people are moving, or when items are getting packed away in
storage units. The thing is, you can actually use storage crates every day.
When your kids have been playing with toys, stash them away in a storage crate
and push it under the table. That way you are not taking up extra floor space.
You can do the same thing with other items, such as books or shoes.
Use curtains instead of doors
Cupboard doors take
up more space than you might actually think. It's not just about the door
itself, but the space you need in order to open it. For this reason, it's a
good idea to use curtains on your cupboards
instead. You can just pull them open and then draw them back across; no extra
space is required.
Add some mirrors
Adding mirrors to
your apartment will not add any extra space; but it will make your home feel more spacious.
If you feel hemmed in, in your tiny living space, this is a big deal. We are
not suggesting you go for mirror overkill, but a few of them, strategically
placed, can make a big difference.
Make use of your parking facilities
If you have parking
facilities that come with your apartment, you may be able to make use of some
extra space there. You do not even need to have floor space for this to be the
case. You can make use of above bonnet storage,
which means you are using space which otherwise would not be put to any use at
all.
Section off areas
The worst thing for
a small apartment is for it to look confused and untidy. This makes the
conditions seem even more cramped than they actually are. It's important to
have specific areas for specific activity, such as a corner where you watch TV
and a corner where you use your laptop or computer. Having some sort of
definition in your apartment helps to make it appear more organized and more
spacious.
Living in a cramped
apartment is not always easy. But, if that is your only option, you have to
make the most of it. Hopefully, you can use some of the tips in this article to
turn your apartment into a living environment that, at the very least, feels
more spacious.
