How Often Should a Termite Inspection Be Carried Out?

A termite infestation can cause considerable damage to your property if it’s not detected and dealt with. This is why it’s a good idea to have a termite inspection carried out on a regular basis. But how often do you need to have your property inspected for termites?

We are going to look at how you may be able to tell if you have a problem with termites. We are also going to explain that signs are often not apparent which is why termite inspections are so important. We are going to take a look at how often you should have your home inspected.

Signs that you may have a problem with termites

There are some signs you should look out for that can alert you to the possible presence of termites in and around your home.

  • Termite shelter tubes – these are thin tubes of clay like material that you may see running from the ground around your property across walls and other structures. Termites can travel along these tubes and they also store food inside them.
  •  Noise from termites – there may be times when you can hear a tapping noise inside your property. Soldier termites tap their heads against structures to send a message to other termites to follow.
  • Termite droppings – you may be able to see piles of termite droppings around your property. These are obviously not very large so may be difficult to spot.

These are some of the most obvious signs that termites may be present in your property. It’s important to note that you may not notice any of these things. It could be that the first time you know there is a problem is when wooden structures start to sag. Termites eat structures from the inside out so you may think that wood looks fine when it has actually been compromised. You can try tapping on the wooden structures in your home to see if they sound hollow.

The importance of a termite inspection

You can see that it’s often difficult to spot the presence of termites. This is why it’s useful to employ an exterminator in Connecticut to help you identify if there is a problem. You should aim to have a termite inspection carried out at least once every twelve months.

If you live in an area where there is a high number of termite infestations, you should have an inspection carried out every six months. If you have a termite problem, then the exterminator you employ should tell you how often your property needs to be inspected in future.

As you can see, termites can cause a considerable amount of damage to your property without you even being aware that they are there. This is why regular termite inspections, carried out by licensed professionals, are so important. Hopefully, we have shown you how often you should have an inspection carried out in order to ensure that your property is well protected.
