Head to a Concert
Look up the local concert halls. Are there any great musicians playing? If you are lucky, you might be able to get Depeche Mode tickets that coincide with your vacation. Not only is this a great way to spend some time on your trip, it's a perfect way to make it to the concert you wanted to go to anyway.

Many families take their vacations during the summer. Make sure you check to see if there are any parades going on in the area. If you have kids, this is a fun way to spend some time and keep them occupied. On top of that, it can be interesting to check out what's behind the different flyers and advertisements for the area; you never know what new things you will discover at the parade.
Almost Every City has Festivals

Nearly every city and even most towns in the country have some sort of festival throughout the year. Find out if there are any festivals happening during your vacation. There are many different types of festivals, from wine and food festivals to music festivals, and more. Because of the all-encompassing nature of a festival, there is sure to be a lot going on, which makes it easy to find activities for everyone you are traveling with to enjoy.
Enjoy the Circus

Do you love to see the animals perform and clowns act crazy? If the town you are headed to is hosting a circus, don't pass it up. This is a fun, family friendly way to spend some time on your vacation. And it's not something that is frequently done on vacation, so it's a great alternative to the normal vacation activities of museums and site-seeing.

Usually when you go on vacation, you aren't thinking about what plays you should see. However, if you want to add a unique experience to your next vacation, look up the local play houses. There are usually plays happening all year long; find out what is playing during your trip. This could be a fun night out for the whole family, or even just for the parents.
Sit Back and Enjoy the Time Off

Too many people use their vacations as a way to cram more stuff into their daily lives. However, a vacation is the perfect time to relax and rejuvenate. So, take the time and read a book, watch a movie, or just take a nap. There is no pressure to go, go, go. Sit back and do nothing for a little while.
When on vacation, it really is up to you. Do what you enjoy. Make sure to do things that will interest everyone in the group, and everyone will stay happy.
