This month we celebrate Thanksgiving, a day to give thanks for all that we are thankful for. We also have the ever so popular Black Friday the day after Thanksgiving where we shop for great deals, many of which are purchased to give as gifts to friends and family. This year on November 27th charities, businesses, families, and people everywhere can get involved in Giving Tuesday, a day that celebrates the spirit of giving and encourages people to give back in a charitable way.
Giving Tuesday is a day for all Americans to come together and feel how good it is to give back to our community, to our favorite charitable organizations, and to those less fortunate. Getting involved with Giving Tuesday can be done in a variety of ways. It's not just for those who can make monetary donations. Consider giving your time as well with some great ideas below to get you started!
Bake/Yard Sale: Hold a bake sale or yard sale with your school, church, or office. Donate the proceeds to a charity or non profit organization of your choice.
Meal Delivery: Know a family or individual who could use a nice hot meal? Consider delivering some meals to those who need it most in your community. You can volunteer with Meals on Wheels or by creating your own organic meal delivery to distribute some healthy food!
Donate Your Time: A great way to give back is to donate your time through your local food pantry or homeless shelter.
Organize a Canned Food Drive: Organize a canned food drive in your community for your local food pantry.
Organize a Coat Drive: The chilly weather is upon us this time of year and so many adults and children out there are in need of a good winter coat. You could organize a community wide coat drive to donate to your local shelters.
I love the idea of Giving Tuesday and I think in the spirit of the holidays it's important for us to remember to give back. Hopefully I have inspired some of you with ideas on how you can join in.
